Losing weight the right way

R.R.R.R.

If you are obese and wondering how to lose weight, Vandana Luthra's Curls and Curves is the right place. Opened recently in Hyderabad, this centre adopts a holistic approach to beauty and fitness.

Geeta Makhija lost a whopping 87 kilos, while Nitin lost 50. These are just two examples of obese people losing weight. There are many more such examples.

LOOK GOOD, Feel Good is the philosophy. Shaping your confidence is another maxim. In today's age where health, fitness and beauty are paramount, these catch phrases surely capture your attention. These are the new mantras propagated by Vandana Luthra Curls and Curves (V.L.C.C.) which was launched in Hyderabad recently. V.L.C.C. is the largest chain in the field of beauty, health and fitness which adopts a holistic approach to obesity.

"What they feel about themselves makes people what they are. Confidence in one's own body transcending cosmetic appearances alone is intrinsic to this," says Vandana Luthra, whose axiom is to make people feel good about themselves. And so she started this unique concept of combining beauty and fitness way back in 1989 when she opened her first centre in Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi. Today VLCC is a brand - with its presence in metros and small towns - 45 branches so far.

VLCC looks at slimming in a scientific way. "There are no crash diets, no rigorous exercises for the obese people. What is recommended is some diet modification and behavioural modification based on the customer's profile. VLCC works closely with doctors, (there are 196 doctors on their panel and invariably 2 per clinic) psychologists and counsellors who offer advice, medically monitor and counsel customers. We want people to enjoy losing weight and therefore feel relaxed about it. At the same time we look at skin care with health. So the weight loss programme is designed keeping in mind both skin care and beauty," says Vandana Luthra. Trained in cosmetology from Germany, Vandana further did a series of courses in beauty care, fitness, food, nutrition and skin care from London, Munich and Paris before fulfilling her dream. "I wanted to be associated with glamour in a serious, positive and big way. So I embarked on this holistic concept of slimming and beauty. I brought the technology from overseas and associated with doctors and others to make it work,"she says. It has indeed been tough for Vandana as she says " it was a struggle to make people accept this concept and bringing in awareness was not easy." But her persistence and determination paid off and today VLCC is a top name to reckon with - the world's first slimming, fitness and beauty corporate to get ISO 9001:9002 certification. The cosmetologists are trained in the Institute of Beauty Health and Management established by Vandana herself.

The forty-sixth branch of VLCC was opened at road, no.12 Banjara Hills (8-2-293/82/L/1-A - four houses away from M.F. Husain's Cinema Ghar. Tel: 3370708, 3378924) by Jayaprada. The clinic offers weight loss and beauty programmes.

Weight maintenance is crucial after weight loss. For this VLCC has a workout factory - a gym which helps maintain the balance. This will be started in a few months in Secunderabad. Step into the plush place and you will realise that everything is state-of-the-art. With VL line of cosmetics available to those undergoing treatment it is surely a way to look and feel good. Vandana's aim to reach out to the masses made her open VLCC branches in small towns too. . "Wherever people are obese, VLCC should be there," says Vandana. That is definitely a way of making a difference and enhancing the personality with a complete look.
