The recently held `Pitambari Encore CHIC 2002 Awards' provided the upcoming designers a platform to showcase their creations

THE ONE stable factor in a constantly-under-flux fashion scenario, has been the nine-yard wonder going trendy at the designer lines, with sequins of gota, lampi and zari. One of popular names in the realm is the Pitambari Sarees, known for the deft baroque needlework and rococo motifs and no repeat designs.
Little did founder Sushila Tikmany realise that her venture Pitambari, after the hue of the rising sun pitambar that brings eternal hope and energy, would become a trailblazer in the sari segment and walk into haute couture centre stage.
The recent `Pitambari Encore CHIC 2002 Awards', held at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata had Aditi Gowitrikar, Fleur Xavier, Sushma Reddy, Aanchal Kuamr and other leading models take the ramp in outfits designed by leading studios from eastern India such as Gaurav Moossaddee-Satrangee, Kamala Dugar-Sanskriti, Nupur Jalan-Aarya and Sejal Kanoi-Sarvesi.
"The response has been overwhelming," says Umanj Tikmany, Director Pitambari Sarees. Envisaged as an annual event, the awards have been instituted to provide a platform to the upcoming designers in the region.
