Colours of life...
LENSMEN, THEY say, are always behind the scene. Only once in a while do they get an opportunity to come to the front. International Colour Slide Show - concluded in New Delhi this past week - was in that respect a rare opportunity. It brought together over 3500 slides from across the world. There were the works of over 500 photo journalists.
Since the inception of India International Photographic Council in 1983, this year for the first time, two sections on wildlife and photo-travel were added. A panel of judges including S.S. Sharma, Captain Santosh Kumar, A.S. Yadav and R.K. Paul selected over 450 slides and awards in each section. In all 22 prestigious medals and 32 certificates of merit were awarded for outstanding entries from Austria, Canada, Sweden, USA, Germany, Hong kong, Switzerland, Belgium, and of course, India. Some of the winners included S.R. Patel, G.K. Awasthi, Aseem Sharma and P.N. Seth from India. All in all, it was a worthwhile exercise in giving the lensmen their due. As they say, the guys who are often in the dark room developing their pictures had their moment under the sun.
