Smacks of style

An exhibition of western wear, salwar kurta ensembles and saris by Weaver's Studio opens today at By the Vine, Adyar.

WEAVER'S STUDIO is today a name to reckon with in the world of haute couture, both nationally and internationally. Its strength lies in bringing out the richness of Indian textiles and weaves, in the application of natural dyes, especially indigo, in incorporating ancient textile craft techniques such as mud-resist, block printing and discharge printing, and above all, in superb embellishments such as kantha, zardosi, chikankari and tribal embroidery on made-ups and saris.

An exhibition-cum-sale of exclusive Weaver's Studio western wear, skirts, tops, scarves and stoles as well as salwar kurta ensembles and saris opens today at By the Vine, 27, Padmanabha Nagar, 5th Street, Adyar. The collection smacks of style and élan — rich woven textiles in a palette of glowing earth colours.

Combine them with embellishments such as kantha, zardosi and chikanwork and you come up with a Weaver's Studio fashion winner! The fashion expressions also include kantha embroidered Venkatagiri, tussar and crepe saris.

A timeless classicism in cut, look and feel sets the western wear collection apart. Skirts and bustiers with contrasting jackets in vivid colours and imaginative block prints mingle with smart tops with shibori work or a hint of zardosi at neck and cuff.

The salwar kurta ensembles with antique zardosi touch make glamorous statements. Rich Kantha work and chikankari in tussar and cotton salwar kurta ensembles make for festive wear.

A new addition to the Weaver's Studio collection is Kantha embroidery in Vidharbha and Bhagalpur saris, both woven at their units in Shantipur in West Bengal.
