Artisans showcase their works

An array of arts and crafts from different parts of the state and select crafts and textiles from other parts of the country are on display at the exhibition, being organised by Vishwakarma, a voluntary organisation for artisans welfare, at Viswapriya Function hall on Beach Road.
The items on display include Kalamkari prints and painting, wooden carvings, pearls and imitation jewellery, lac bangles, cotton durries, sea shells, Terracota, Saharanpur, wall hangings, appliqué works, Tanjore paintings, leather articles and dress materials.
The artisans are directly participating in the exhibition-cum-sale. "Viswakarma is a registered Non Government Organisation, based in Hyderabad, committed to improving the living standards of the artisans," says its secretary, K. Jonathan.
Since its formation in May 2000, Viswakarma had organised exhibitions in different parts of the state. The first exhibition-cum-sale held at Warangal in August 2000 was an astounding success with sales touching Rs.8.5 lakh. There was no looking back eversince and exhibitions were held at Karimnagar, Godavarikhani, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Ramagundam, Tanuku, Tenali, Cuddapah, Anantpur and Tadipatri and they drew tremendous response.
The exhibition was inaugurated by VUDA chairman, S.A. Rehaman, on Friday. It will be on until January 15.
