'Hat tricks'

Hats and caps denote personal style and personality attributes.

THE PREVAILING winds of change have knocked the hats and caps off the formal boundaries. The mere mention of hats takes us back to the 1950s when these fashion accessories were fine carriers of class, dignity and the formal look. Today, the top story is sporty, inspired by use, not formality.

Let us begin the `hat trick' with the logo-ed baseball cap topping the style charts. In an age of ozone layer trepidations, this cap proves essential in the list of accessories as it offers substantial sun protection. This cap is a fine carrier of personal style and personality attributes. The cap compliments all face shapes.

Continuing the `top story' is the tennis hat, which is similar to a fisherman's hat. The flat crown and soft brim of this hat keeps the sun out of your eyes. Worn by Woody Allen to keep the world out of his face, the tennis hat gives you a good, casual topping on a sunny picnic day. It is the right fashion accessory to supplement the Khaki culture.

Style charts also indicate the traditional tweed cap with a snap-down visor. This design idea is not very high on the charts but is definitely a good choice.

The soft, washable and durable Polartec fleece cap is sitting cosy under the fashion tree. Crowning men as well as women, the fur trapper's hat continues to be a part of the high fashion line. Insulation levels could be controlled depending on the quality of the fur employed. With the summer approaching, the Panama hat of fine straw supplies elegance. The design feature talks of a men's straw-boater or brimmed straw hat with a ribbon band. The vintage cowboy cap also forms a part of this story. But, avoid it on a heavy build as it only adds a width wise accent making you look broader. With a peek-a-boo at the style indicators make sure you remain right on top.
