"Slim Cooking", a programme recently organised by Talwalkars-fitness studio, Nungambakkam, laid emphasis on proper diet and exercise to fight flab.

THE SAYING `an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure' is never more appropriate when it comes to your own health. This makes diet one of the most important aspects of lifestyle. This was the message conveyed during the programme "Slim Cooking", organised by Talwalkars-fitness studio this past week.
The programme was part of the studio's endeavour to inculcate in its members the right kind of lifestyle through proper diet and exercise.
"Reducing weight doesn't mean starving, you can eat five times a day and still keep fit, provided you eat the right kind of food. Most of us put on weight due to a sedentary lifestyle and erratic food habits; weight can be reduced through exercise and modifications in your diet," says Vishal Rupani, partner, Talwalkars.
The various dishes prepared by its members such as soya manchurian, raw papaya salad, magic mushrooms, pep kabab (made out of boiled potatoes, green chilly and mint leaves) sai bhaji (made out of spinach) and dessert (made using skimmed milk, powdered sugar and fruits) were delicious but at the same time high in nutrition. The chef of Taj Coromandel later evaluated the dishes and gave away the prizes to the winners. Talwalkars is now planning to bring out a booklet on the various recipes made by its members.
"People often equate nutritious food with bad taste. This is not true," says Vishal. "By conducting this show, we wanted to prove that even while using low calorie ingredients you can experience the same taste and flavour."
Says Maya Arjun Lal, one of the first members of Talwalkars, "After joining the studio, I have been able to control my blood pressure through diet and exercise. Today, I feel more energetic than ever before."
Located in Nungambakkam, Talwalkars is a name synonymous with fitness. Through the studio's understanding of fitness, personalised supervision, continuous upgradation of facilities and result-oriented approach, Talwalkars has earned 1,500 members in the city and has 23 branches all over the country. The studio started its operation in the city last year. Some of the programmes offered include, fat loss, weight management and aerobics apart from sauna, steam bath and gymnasium.
