Priyanka Chopra... Bollywood beckons.

SHE WANTED to be a doctor, she feebly expressed her desire in a radio interview sometime after she became Miss World in 1999. Remember she named Mother Teresa as her favourite living legend and also gave India's population count wrong on stage, yet managed to grab the title? She still can get away with quite a few blunders with her pearly smile and near-husky voice that charms many. This was proved once again when Priyanka Chopra, a second lead in Anil Sharma's latest film "The Hero" opposite Sunny Deol appeared at a press conference at DT cinema located on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road this past week. In the film, she is playing the role of a doctor who hails from Pakistan.

"What if I am doing a second lead in the film?" she asks. "It is important to play a character in performance under a good banner than to be there just for the sake of it," she justifies.

In "Andaaz" she is coming with Lara Dutta. Again a second lead. "Well, it is good to be in competition. But, don't read anything into it. We gel very well with each other. On sets we were just two giggling girls of a school. We felt equally easy in a single frame as well," she says.

Has she come to Gurgaon for the first-time? "No, my Bade Papa lives here. We own a house nearby."

And for modelling and acting, she considers them two different domains. "In modelling we represent ourselves, while in films we become the character we play. The latter is difficult."

Is she going to continue in both?

"If you like me in films, I won't go back to modelling."

While Priyanka is all geared up for "meaty roles opposite anyone but a good banner" she cannot think of any dream role as yet. Here's to a reality check.
