Topping your own pizza
Let your imagination run riot in creating your own pizzas from many toppings at Encounters, Taj Krishna.
TEMPTING TOPPINGS: Opt for the wide array.
PIZZA HAS caught the fancy and imagination of people and chefs in the food industry. This humble Italian dish has traversed across the frontiers of the Italian peninsula to other nations and shores. In the course of the travel, the pizza has perhaps moved away from the land of its origin in terms of flavour and taste. For, the desi versions of pizzas are fast catching up, although the base invariably remains Italian. Today there are whole lot of options by which one can create one's own pizza using a variety of toppings. This is precisely the experience Taj Krishna offers the visitor to Encounters - the Coffee Shop. A one-month pizza promotion is on till mid June. It may be extended depending on response.
DELICIOUS PIZZA: The much traveled Italian dish.
A huge pizza poster greets the visitor on arrival. "The pizza promotion is basically to showcase the strength of the hotel in pizzas. We are already making pizzas and we thought we can have this promotion in summer, the holiday season to attract children and adults," says Vishal Bharti, the Food and Beverages Manager. All one has to do is to walk across to the counter which has about 30 different toppings - exotic and usual, veg and non-veg. Select the topping or toppings in a plate and hand it over to the chef at the interactive kitchen counter (also mention whether you want thin or thick crust - the crust is authentically Italian) and voila! You will have a 14 inch pizza in a few minutes. But remember to go between 3 p.m. and midnight.
BECKONING ENTRY: This poster will surely make your mouth water.
The ingredients for the toppings besides tomato sauce, cheese and herbs (oregano) include artichoke, sliced gherkins, jalapenos, green olives, black olives, capers, cornichon gherkins, asparagus, baby corn, mushroom, pesto (a paste of basil pine nuts, olive oil, parmesan cheese and fresh garlic), red peppers, yellow peppers, green peppers, pineapple, water chestnuts, anchovy, cottage cheese, Cajun prawn, chicken sausage, chicken stragonoff, sliced tenderloin, shredded ham, lamb bolognaise, chicken salami, kheema masala, chicken tikka and American corn. "A few of these fillings will be changed and new ones (barring the popular ones) will be added to the repertoire," says Chef Sachin. That way the gourmets get a variety. The following week may see tandoori items (paneer, fish, prawns) and smoked fish. There are a few add-ons at the table. Olive oil can be drizzled on the pizza with a generous sprinkling of crushed red chilli flakes (for the spicy taste), parmesan cheese and a dash of oregano for an extra zing. And to wash down the pizza there is unlimited pepsi too. Of course the whole package comes at a price - Rs. 245 plus taxes. Go ahead and indulge in the creative act of making a pizza on your own.
