Munch hot dogs, regale in their history

EVER HEARD the name of sports cartoonist, T.A.Dorgan? His lampooning of some men as dachshunds in buns was partly responsible for familiarising food buffs with Hot Dogs.

To coincide the American independence on July 4th, New Delhi's The All American Diner is serving scrumptious hotdogs in customary, traditional way for one month. In the US, celebrating the National Hot Dog month, an estimated two billion hotdogs are going to be consumed. Now you don't have to go all the way to the US State's of Kansas and Texas as chef in-charge, Shantanu, an expert hand in preparing hotdogs bearing in mind their divergent flavours and uniqueness, has been entrusted with the task of supervising this favourite American edible.

Enjoy the great American meal at Diners with an impressive ambience, what with memorabilia of American celebrities like Lucille Desiree Ball and other icons hanging on the wall. Choose music of the rock classics of `50s from Elvis Wurlitzer jukebox and decide which one suits your palate from a wide assortment of hotdogs.

No turkey or beef is being served. Shantanu says, "Frankfurters are being prepared indigenously instead of imported tin ones. They are heated till they are equivalent to room temperature. Then chicken fat is added so that they become juicy."

Eat succulent Chicago Dog, a four inches long Frankfurter, topped with condiments like tomato slices and chopped onions. Spray mustard or ketchup and then take a bite. Or try Baltimore Frizzled Dog, which has a deep fried Frankfurter along with honey glazed onions and grainy mustard in rye bun. There are also Classic Hot Dog, Cheese Dog, Kansas City, Tex Miex, Chicago and Southern Slaw.

You can also choose from waffles, malts, shakes and an indelible range of coffee and cocktails.
