"Cruelty to animals — how sensitive are we to the issue"

Say no to silk

WE DON'T seem to be sensitive to this issue. An example is the use of leather products. Most of us know that animals are killed for their hides, still our fondness for these products is growing. If we care about animal welfare, we must take an oath never to buy leather items. Interestingly, the government itself conducts leather fairs.

Another example is that of silk saris. Silk threads are extracted by destroying the silkworm's cocoon. But we are not bothered about the method of preparation and continue to behave in a selfish manner.
