For lovers of Carnatic music

IT IS a unique opportunity for those who want to learn Carnatic music systematically. Brhaddhvani, a Chennai-based non-profit organisation, dedicated to research and training in Carnatic music is offering COMET (Co-related Objective Music Education and training) undergraduate and post-graduate courses, free of cost, to eight selected students. The admission committee will select the candidates on the basis of an interview and voice test. Applicants with a sound background in music will be directly admitted to the post-graduate programme.

COMET undergraduate programme is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in music. It combines the best of the gurukula (personal guidance) and institutional methods. The programme comprises research, documentation, archiving and recording methodologies, with teaching, self-learning and performance.

The COMET post-graduate programme, is an advanced, two-year course, equivalent to a Master's degree in music and students specialise in performance, teaching, improvisation and composition. They are expected to complete the teacher's training module and exhibit expertise in Brhaddhavani's original notation/transcription methods. Those specialising in performance have to present a full-length concert.

Application forms must reach the organisation before July 31. Admission closes on August 15.
