There's something for everyone
ONE COULD miss the sign board of Rangoli, the boutique on Spurtank Road. Located just a furlong away from the Chetpet traffic signal, the outlet has been in the business of making clothes since 1991.
Vasudha Talwar began Rangoli as a tailoring unit. "But I found that there was no creative input from my side," she says. So four years later, Rangoli became a full-fledged boutique, stocking materials and made-ups as well as offering tailoring services.
There's something for everybody at Rangoli. If you love the ethnic look, there are handlooms, Bagh prints (what makes this print special is that the cloth is dyed in the waters of the Bagh river in Madhya Pradesh to get that brick red colour), Dabu from Rajasthan, Mangalgiri, bandhini and the now popular kalamkari.
Also on the shelves are natural fabrics --- whites with self-prints and a hint of silver and gold streaks to add a dash of elegance. Those who prefer synthetics can check out salwar sets in drip-dry fabrics, bizzie lizzie (all discharge printing i.e. dark background with light motifs), voile, mulmul and kota.
The chiffon sets with badla work could go well as semi-formal wear. Besides these, there are dupattas, which can be co-ordinated with the fabrics available, in ikkat, bandhini, chiffon and Mangalgiri.
Made-ups in three sizes (small, medium and large), salwars, kurtis, trouser tops and kaftans can be bought over the counter as well.
The prices are Rs. 500 upwards for a salwar suit. During Diwali and New Year, silk out fits too are available. Tailoring and special orders are undertaken. Rangoli is located at 30, Spurtank Road, Chetpet, ph( 28360186).
