From a quaint little store, Fashion Folks moves to a swanky showroom
|
THE SHERIFF brothers - Javed, Kaiser and Shakeel - are on a roll. Their joint venture, Fashion Folks, which saw the light of day in 1992 in a cubby-hole near the Besant Nagar beach, has today turned into a burgeoning business. In keeping with its new standing in the market, Fashion Folks has now moved to a sprawling showroom on Besant Avenue.
The new showroom was inaugurated this past weekend by the Union Minister of State for Railways, A.K. Murthy. Loyal customers (a good number of them expatriates) thronged to the showroom with bouquets and words of congratulations. Some of the customers who have been visiting Fashion Folks since its inception - such as Supraja (who has modelled for The Chennai Silks and Shree-Temple of Gold) and Madhavan - shared their experiences.
To liven up things, some models displayed the range of clothes while DJ Rahul provided the music. The highlight was the casual wear collection, comprising sports jerseys, polo-necks, sweatshirts and semi-formals.
The other rounds saw the models displaying summer and designer collections - formals, cotton wear, minis, leather and tweed jackets, among others.
Mixing the numbers well, DJ Rahul produced music that one was able to luxuriate in. All through the fashion show, he pushed down on the pitch button, providing a new tone to numbers such as Shine Disco Bar, Hot n' Hear and Rapture. He played numbers such as A Las Ketchup and Self-control in a lower pitch.
Compere Shayne David asked questions for the "Guess-The-Prize Contest". The other fun activity was face-painting - the children could not get enough of it!
