YANG JIAYU, the ITC Kakatiya Sheraton's celebrity Chinese chef shared the secrets of his wok with the members of the Kakatiya's Ladies Club. Held in collaboration with the Chinese food festival which is on at the ITC Kakatiya Sheraton Hotel and Towers, the chef demonstrated to the thirty odd members, a selection of the cuisine from across the Great Wall.
Yang, who has been in India for the past four years, started the exclusive Shanghai Club restaurant in Chennai, and is also fond of old Hindi movies, favourites being Awaara and Noori. He demonstrated to the not so attentive crowd (only the first two rows were listening in rapt attention) the nuances of making crispy fried potatoes with pepper, governor's chicken, vegetable fried rice and a mother's special using tomatoes and eggs.
The delicacies were available for the asking after the demonstration. The food festival has also been extended for a week and Yang's touch will be very much in evidence for all those who patronise.
The ladies club, which is an extended activity of the hotel, meets twice a month and has cookery demonstrations at least twice a year. The club was started five years ago and has a fair sprinkling of both professionals and homemakers.
