Creativity in clay

The Ceramic Show at The Park presents an eye-catching range

THE CERAMIC Show at The Park, which is being held to coincide with The Other Festival, captures the festival's theme of `music, dance, drama, art and you'. The exhibition, curated by Kaveri Bharath of Pothole, showcases the works of some of the leading ceramic artists of the country. If there is a marked influence of the Pondicherry style in some of the exhibits, it's because many of the artists have worked or trained under Ray Meeker of Golden Bridge Pottery. Kaveri Bharath's top handled vase in deep green and glaze was designed while working in Pondicherry and architect-turned-potter Adil Writer had learnt the techniques of the clay and wheel at Golden Bridge Pottery. Writer's wall panels with exotic sounding names are attractive. Ray Meeker's gallery piece is a top handled vase featuring fish motifs in brown and white. Aarti Vir's salt glazed stoneware creations are eye-catching. Supriya Menon's big platter is in muted colour slips and transparent glaze while Sherbani Dasgupta's earthenware is an elongated bird-like vase with touches of blue, white and green. Among other well-known artists whose works are on show are Vineet Kacker, Mannsimran Singh and Abhay Pandit.

The Ceramic Show, which is the largest collection ever shown in the city, ends on December 7. A documentary on pottery will also be screened every evening at 7 p.m., at the lobby of The Park, Nungambakkam High Road.
