Sisal and Sabai grass find exotic expression at Urvi Weaves and Crafts
|
URVI WEAVES and Crafts (1st floor, Model House, Panjagutta) is an aesthetically designed modern Alibaba's treasure trove that can transport one to a different plain altogether in just a space of few minutes.
The venue is now playing host to an exhibition-cum-sale of Sabai and Sisal grass products that ends on December 11. The sale organised in association with IIT Kharagpur brings in cheer for nature lovers as all exhibits are made of eco-friendly materials.
Cool, classy, contemporary, the items on display have been made using non-timber forest resources as part of the Participatory Forest Management Project. Ford Foundation has sponsored the programme.
Both Sabai and Sisal grass have high tear resistance, high alpha cellulose content, high porosity and great folding endurance which makes the raw materials suitable for any kind of product. Among objects on sale are, handbags, shopping/beach bags, coasters, bottle holders, hats, shoulder bags, containers and mats.
Perhaps, the most outstanding item on display is the wooden tie. As part of a special venture by IIT Kharagpur, these beautiful ties of ethnic character have been craved out of wood of thickness 6-8 millimetres. Check out the curious melange of artefacts at Urvi Weaves and Crafts (Tel: 23352661), and leave no room for regret. The sale is on between 10 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.
