THE ECO-STORE Thofah has organised a show of silk mats and re-cycled handmade paper items at its Adyar and and Anna Nagar outlets.
Razia Mat Industries of Pattamadai village in Tirunelveli district, one of the pioneers in weaving the famous pattupais (silk mats) make this from Korai grass. The grass is soaked and split into fine strands and woven with great skill into beautiful mats. The mats come in varying degrees of fineness and in a wide range of colours and designs. These mats are an essential item in South Indian marriages.
An exhibition of the award-winning designs in floor, table and wall mats created by the Stree Seva Mandir is on till the stocks last at Thofah, 11, `Tapovan' Arunachalapuram 2nd Street, Adyar.
The Anna Nagar outlet of Thofah (AA8, 2nd Avenue) has some extensive range of paper products designed by Manish Agarwal from Bangalore. These can be used as gift items by both individuals and corporate houses, as they are utilitarian with a designer look!
