As a possessive father in `Aetbar'
FORGET ABOUT fading, the Bachchan magic is growing with new generation rooting for the icon with the same passion as they are refusing to notice the presence of his junior. This year the ultimate hero of Hindi cinema has 12 films lined up, with Khakee and Vikram Bhatt's Aetbar, where he is playing a possessive father to Bipasha Basu clashing on January 23. The man is still getting central and diverse roles and has the energy to portray different roles with the energy of a youngster. No wonder, Javed Akhtar, who sketched him to fame early in his career and has again pencilled him as an army man in Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya, calls him the best actor of the present generation. "He oozes the same energy as he used to in the seventies," says Javed.
Vipul Shah who directed him in Aankhen and now in Waqt: A Race Against Time, points out, "He shows so much respect for the views of new directors that the nervousness of directing him immediately goes away. The composure that he showed while shooting the station scene in Aankhen amidst a raucous crowd was simply amazing."
Kabir Lal, the cinematographer, who is shooting him in Anil Sharma's Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon, remarks, "Unlike other stars, who come to the sets just for the take, he gives time to the cinematographer to set his frame and adjust his lights."
This year he will also be seen in Gaurang Doshi's Deewar based on the prisoners of war and the much delayed Zamanat, where he will share screen space with the lady Amitabh Bachchan of the south Vijayashanti for the first time.
With Baghban slated to earn him many awards this year, Amitabh is setting new bars of excellence. For himself only.
