Fashion dabbles in art

Art will meet fashion at two shows in the city, when ace designer Satya Paul will unveil his latest collection of neck-ties and saris inspired by the works of a host of artists — both national and international.

"Inspirational Saries" and "Cultural Ties" will showcase intriguing ranges designed with a dash of drama. The line of saris draws inspiration from the paintings of grandmasters Rothko, Matisse, Louis Morris and Mondrian. The colour and mystique of their works get translated into the collection of couture with admirable fluidity. The neck-ties that attempt to revolutionise men's wear by fusing artistic expressions with design reflect the works of 75 contemporary artists, including K. Muralidharan, Rm Palaniappan, Balasubramaniam, Premalata Seshadri and Laxma Goud. The piece de resistance will be the world's most expensive tie (diamond-studded) worth a whopping Rs. 1 crore. The shows are being presented by Apparao Galleries, The Park, Taj Coromandel and General Motors.
