Fruity makeovers

Fruit Shock, Lakme's new range of cosmetics, was introduced to Chennai-ites with a demonstration

TALL GLASSES of lemonade, lazy holidays and cool sunglasses apart, summer brings to mind images of a scorching sun and, of course, smudgy make-up. This summer, Lakme decided to give the fashion-conscious in the city a break from the monotony of melting mascara and running make-up with the launch of its new range, Fruit Shock.

On Saturday, at the Qwikys coffee shop at Lifestyle, Lakme, in association with the store, organised a workshop, focussing on the art of using make-up in summer. The Fruit Shock range of products will be used at the Lakme India Fashion Week from April 27 to May 3.

Lifestyle International and Lakme India brought make-up artist Kapil Bhalla and Lakme model Indrani Dasgupta to demonstrate the Fruit Shock range. Though Fashion TV played in the background and the melodious voice of Enrique Iglesias' set the mood at Qwikys, many who were present were hesitant to try out the new fruity look.

Announcements to make them try the products were fruitless till the elegant Indrani Dasgupta took over the satin-draped make-up throne and Kapil Bhalla turned her into the flavour of the season. The candy colours and vivacious shades at last got the gathering interested.

The juicy fruit look is available in three ranges — Pop, Crush and Burst. At the workshop, Kapil Bhalla demonstrated the Pop look on Indrani. "I chose Pop over Crush and Burst to suit her attire," said the make-up artist. "Usually people think that summer make-up consists of sober colours, but we are doing just the opposite. With these colours, even a little make-up stands out," he said.

Each range seems to explore a distinct line of expression. `Pop' consists of mostly pink and candy colours to give a youthful look. The `Crush' look brings in rich colours such as strawberry and raisin, while `Burst' has vivacious, bright shades to suit every garment. "On the whole, the entire range depicts fruit colours, vivacity and energy," said Bhalla.
