Jewellery from different parts of the country is on show at an exhibition at Poompuhar, Anna Salai

IT'S JEWELS galore at Poompuhar, Anna Salai, where "Jewell Expo 2004" is on till June 19, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, the exhibition has on display jewellery made of silver, lacquer, thread, shell and bone, both trendy and traditional, from Andhra Pradesh, Andamans, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Nepal. Prices range from Rs. 25 to Rs. 1.25 lakhs.
Semi-precious stones set in silver comprise the collection from Rajasthan. The necklaces with a platinum finish are trendy.
Tribal jewellery, bracelets, necklaces and kundan sets come at an affordable price.
The silver anklets studded with semi precious stones are priced at Rs. 550. Intricately designed silver vanki is also on display.
If Hyderabad is well represented by pearls and semi precious stone jewellery, it is camel bone jewellery in the form of brooches, hair accessories, earrings, kadas, bangles, malas and finger rings that Kerala has to offer.
Meenakari chokers and earrings and kundan jewellery in lively colours from the Pink City are eye-catching. The rudraksha and sandalwood beads from Nepal stand out for their simplicity.
There is an astonishing variety of one-gram gold jewellery from Bangalore.
From Tamil Nadu, there are panchaloha bangles from Coimbatore and temple jewellery.
A 10 per cent discount is being offered on the various items.
