Embroidery extravaganza
WITH TRADITIONAL Indian embroidery becoming increasingly visible on the ramps in the major fashion centres of the world, crafts such as zardozi, aari and chikankari have never been so big within the country. No longer are they considered loud and kitschy; in fact, you may be the odd one out if you don't own something exquisitely embroidered.
So, if you are yet to jump on to this bandwagon, here is your chance to do it and in style. The Varnachitra boutique at Sasthamangalam will present an exhibition of saris, salwar kameez, churidars, and dress material from Manju Jalota's Alankrit label at the Women's Club, Kaudiar, on June 18 and 19. Crafted by villagers in the area of Awadh in Uttar Pradesh, the products at the exhibition promise to give today's women a complete look.
The exhibition has on display flowing chiffons and crepes, apart from the cottons and voiles. The highlight will be structured organzas embellished with embroidery, woven designs, zardozi, crochet, lace, cut work and bead works. An array of kurtis will also be on offer.
