Raring to do more
`RETIRED' IS a term that is alien to N. P Ouseph, just turned ninety. He has now put together some of his speeches, written painstakingly, for several causes, sometimes as simple as the occasion for a colleague who was retiring, into a book and presented it to all his friends and well wishers.
"Mattancherry is proud to have him living here, for even when he was a very busy man, into business, banking and social activities, he never lost touch with the common man. While those of his ilk spent the evening in clubs, Mr Ouseph met people, taught them what he learned from his voracious reading and led a simple life," said K J Sohan, former mayor of Kochi.
Mr Ouseph's various vocations took him to different countries. He was a banker first, then an exporter. As the president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he tried his best to get the best for the body.
Hailing from Vypeen, he had his education in Maharaja's College and later in Presidency College, Madras for his Economics honours. "My days there are unforgettable, from 1934-37. Mr. G. Narasimhan was my classmate," he remembered, showing an old group photo.
Mr Ouseph is still active in many of the spheres he excelled in and raring to do more.
