SUBLIME IS one word that sums up the stuff Ras Ranjan dishes out. Scoop after scoop just seem to evaporate in a jiffy at the one-room shop at Trimulgherry (beside Vacs pastries) where ice creams sell like hot cakes.
Ever had an ice cream that taste like paan? At Ras Ranjan they have nearly mastered the science of combining the two with the result of a certain paan-pasand ice cream that tastes like Meenakshi, - a popular flavour with connoisseurs. Replete with unique flavours and distinct taste, the menu never fails to spring surprises.
"We keep on updating and experimenting with new flavours, retaining the popular ones," says the restaurant's managing partner, Majid. His recommendations are the delightfully fresh Jamun, Chappan Bhog, Strawberry and Litchi.
Among other popular varieties are, Fig Honey, Hazel Nut Chocolate, Pineapple Nuts, Orange and Green Pista. Over laden with nuts and delicately coated with chocolate chips, the only danger is in sinking one's teeth in the lips in a bid to lick the last drip. With mountains of mouth-watering ice cream, it is unfortunate we just have one tummy. "Our ice creams are 100 per cent vegetarian," Majid emphasises. Moderately priced at Rs. 22 for two large scoops, Ras Ranjan's bet is on quality and taste, the reason why his ice creams are a sell out by the end of the day. The ice cream parlour does not promise any frills, it only doles out sinfully rich, melting moments. So let the velvety smooth frozen treats be scooped out, lap it up, lick and see yourself rewarding with one more.
