Glam-buoyant

Designer Krsna hates the minimalist look

HE ACTUALLY floated into the room. No one realised he'd walked in till there was a squeal of delight from Shobaa De as she sprang forward (very gracefully, of course) to introduce him to us. "That's the star of the evening — Krsna!," she said, as he bowed and shook our hands.

Krsna Mehta, Design Director, Zebaworld, who specialises in textile designing, has created homes for a host of clients ranging from corporates like Unilever, to hospitality clients like The Marriott and the Taj Group, to those of film personalities like Neha Dhupia. His own home in Bandra, Mumbai was telecast for stylish spaces on Star World's Style. Elle Dιcor and Wallpaper have also selected Krsna's house for their feature story in their forthcoming issue.

"Everyone's been asking me if I'm out of my mind to have my world premier in Bangalore of all places!" Krsna said laughingly. "See, Bangalore is such a wunnnderful city, so cosmopolitan. There's money in the city, and less clutter. Why wouldn't I choose this place?" The design house wasn't just a studio, but an "inspiration space".

With an area of 1200 sq ft, Zeba and Krsna showroom is designed in red bricks, glass and wood, with ample play of light. It has been created in such a way that customers can freely walk around, physically touching, and experiencing the feel they would have if they brought the fabric and floor coverings to their home. The showroom offers a coordinated range of home textiles like bedcovers, pillow covers, cushions, bolsters, quilts, curtains, table tops, mats, napkins; fashion accessories (Krsna called them "gimmicky things") like lamp shades, bean bags, wine bags, ladies designer bags, stoles, exquisitely handcrafted carpets, rugs and dhurries, amongst others.

Asked what he thought about minimalist homes, Krsna visibly retched. "People spend so much time in barren, boring offices and work spaces that they're making their homes also empty and unimaginative. I'd never use plain drapes; there will be some glam at least at the seams."

The Zeba and Krsna store is at Hatworks Boulevard, 32, Cunningham Road, Ph: 22088137. You can look for more information on www.zebaworld.com.
