LOOKING FOR Kanchipuram saris that are alluring and of good quality? Head straight for the Kanchipuram Saree House. Tucked away in a corner opposite the SL Theatre on Chettikulangara Road, the showroom offers a one-year guarantee on the colour and zari of the Kanchipuram silk saris that you buy. The sari showroom has gradually been making its presence felt among the discerning Kanchipuram sari buyers in the city.

With branches in Kochi and Kozhikode, the Kanchipuram Weaver's Co-operative comprising 108 weavers' set up its third branch in Thiruvananthapuram eight months ago.

Ambience

The shop has an old-world charm, with mattresses spread on the floor and saris stocked in steel almirahs. It boasts of a wide range of Kanchipuram saris and cotton salwar kameez coordinates. The shop stocks the latest in Kanchipuram cotton saris, saris embellished with threadwork, Kanchi rich cotton saris that are a blend of cotton and silk, Village Cotton saris besides the silk ones that Kanchipuram is best known for. The prices start at around Rs. 500.

As far as the Kanchipuram cotton saris go, the variety available here is amazing. If it is saris in rare colour combinations that you are looking for, this is the place to check out.

Exclusive

There is an element of exclusivity as many of the saris available here are those that you may not get to buy in most other shops. The prices for the cotton saris start at from Rs. 400 upwards. As for the collection of Kanchipuram silk saris, it is exclusive and beautiful.

At the higher-end are brocade saris with or without crystal embellishments, besides those with the temple design on the border. The saris are priced at Rs. 15,000.

Brocade saris with traditional motifs and borders are comparatively cheaper and can be picked up at prices between Rs. 9,000 and Rs. 10,000. Then there are silk saris with the temple border design, threadwork and those with borders in contrasting hues (from Rs. 1,000 onwards).

The shop also has a collection of authentic Gadhwal saris, the prices for which are in the range of Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 3,000. If the saris here are not to your liking, you can get made-to-order saris in the desired hue and design. You can choose between 18-carat zari border and 20 carat ones. The sari will be crafted within 45 days.

And if you have been wondering what to do with the old Kanchipuram silks or the kasavu borders of such saris, then think no more. Trade them for new saris, for a certain amount would be decided as the price for the old sari and deducted from that of the new one.

Saris and more

Salwar kameez coordinates are available at Kanchipuram Saree House in a variety of colour combinations and designs, from the simple cotton ones to those with elaborate threadwork. The coordinates are priced at Rs. 500 upwards.
