Quality and commitment lead to good looks and better living, personality diva Ratna Khemani, tells T.SARAVANAN
|
IN THESE days of cross-cultural influences and fast paced life, how does one keep off factors like stress and depression and instead encompass a healthy mind in a fit body? How does one tackle immense competition in every field and not be intimidated by it? How does one handle a plethora of opportunities and yet not be flustered by it?
Ask personality development diva Ratna Khemani and she has tips for everybody, every problem, every situation.
In town recently, this well known director of the Pune-based Centre for Personality Development held out promises for all sections of people, all types of professionals even if everything around appears doomed.
"At least one in every five person suffers from depression and lack of motivation. People have forgotten their common courtesy in the mad rush to become economically sound," she reiterated in her series of meetings here with medicos, Rotarians and others, primarily to underline how "common courtesy has become as uncommon as common sense."
To revive the culture of good behaviour, it is essential to develop a positive attitude in life, discover one's hidden assets, manage relationships and tackle hurdles, in the opinion of the personality counsellor whose forte is the large canvass of personal grooming.
"There is space and place for each of us. But there is no substitute for hard work. It is a fallacy to think that things come easy. Only if you work, you realise your dream. Quality is the Queen and Commitment is the King," she believes.
Communication skills
As a master of communication skills, Ms. Khemani advises judicious use of the power of communication. "Words can make or break a person. Derogatory comments should be avoided. Speak when you must and what you must," she quips.
On good health, she says, less salt, spices and oil in food definitely do a world of good but we should be able to practice what we preach. Merely prescribing soups and salads to others is unrealistic, instead seasonal and nutritious vegetables should always be recommended, she opines. She further lists laughter as the best medicine for health.
Citing how laughter therapy is popualr in Western countries, she says: "We live in a mechanical mess and forget to work with nature and lose our natural emotion to laugh."
Family relationships
Ms. Khemani places special emphasis on family relationships and marriage as an institution. "Save marriage, it is the foundation of society. Our cultural system is based on romance with responsibility, commitment and caring and also allowing each other space to grow. Let your spouse develop, only then will she perform her duties better," she exhorts, adding that, home should be an oasis from where everybody draws strength.
Conserve energy and spend at least 10 minutes with yourself to experience and calmness, is her other beauty tip on looking good. Compiling all her points and thoughts, Ms. Khemani plans to come out with three books: `Make yourself a winner' (on personality development); `Forever young, forever beautiful' (on natural health and beauty) and `Can I be as beautiful as you? Yes, if you eat your carrots, spinach and tomatoes' (on children). "I am original. Everything I teach is my experience. I feel for it, I care for things. I know what today's young adults want. It is in tune with times" is how she distinguishes herself from other personality development counsellors.
"You have to be noble in your mind. It has to come from within. I don't work for money. Whatever I earn I use it for educating poor children," says this widely travelled new age guru whose modules are need-based and who has the distinction of addressing practically every top management institute across the globe and rubbing shoulders with world's who's who including Queen Elizabeth, George Bush, Prince Charles, Rusi Modi, Shah of Iran, Yehudi Menhuin, Queen Noor of Jordan, to name a few.
