Siraj Ahmed is no dog hater, but asks if canines, along with their owners, must target parks and pavements

DOG WALKING is not as innocuous as it is made to appear. This pet obsession with the elite has escaped the notice of those hawk-eyed environmentalists who have their eyes on the pulse of the city. It is time dog owners are leashed and restrained.
Dogs shouldn't be allowed to pollute the environs of the beautiful parks of our city every morning.
The babus who take their dogs out after sunrise are out not so much for walking as they are for saving their own lawns from pollutants. Rip off the camouflage under which these dog walkers hide and you have the painful sight of walkers zigzagging along these courses, carefully skipping the zones pockmarked by canine refuse.
Bizzare are the ways of our elite, who turn up their noses at "unsightly" rows of people using the pavement every morning, holding Bisleri bottles that barely hide their act.
But they have no qualms about taking their dogs out for an equally absurd act. They loathe seeing others committing nuisance in public. But under the cover of dog walking, they are polluting too.
The BMP is only thinking of licensing the canines in terms of the hazards they pose to those without them. But this will not suffice. The dog owners must be made responsible for refusing to keep their animals outside parks and jogging courses.
Dogs, it is said, are the American's best friends. An adult American can forgo a spouse, but not the dog! But the American parks are not littered with dog droppings, as is the case in Bangalore or any Indian city, for that matter.
Americans take their dogs out only after the canines have relieved themselves at home. If not, they carry plastic gloves and zip lock bags to safely pack the pollutants the animal might deposit while walking. Is the BMP listening?
