An exhibition at the C. P. Art Centre illustrates the rich artistic tradition of Karnataka

AN EXHIBITION of handicrafts, organised by Cauvery, the Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., is on at the C. P. Art Centre, 1, Eldams Road, Alwarpet. The intricate carving of the rosewood furniture (dining table, pooja-mantap and centre tables) and the rosewood inlay work panels illustrate the rich artistic tradition of the State.
The images of gods and goddesses, flower vases and jewel boxes carved out of sandalwood have a sense of grandeur about them. The painstakingly crafted vintage car model in rosewood and the bullock-cart in teak and rosewood speak volumes for the workmanship of the artisans.
Also on display are corporate gift items made of lightweight wood a set comprising a key chain, a visiting card holder and a pen with a stand, is priced at Rs. 280.
As Karnataka is famous for its perfumery and incense sticks, the exhibition has on display a wide range of agarbatis, room fresheners and perfume oils. A gift set with 10 varieties of incense sticks comes at Rs. 100.
The exhibition also showcases an array of textiles and elegant home dιcor such as curtains, crochet cushion covers and table mats, dhurries and batik panels. Also check out the lacquer ware, wooden utility items and silver jewellery. The exhibition is on till December 14, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
