Sabyasachi Mukherjee's Vincent collection.
THE CIRCLE of Life, Global Traveller, Comet, the Milky Way, Onyx Odyssey... no... no, you are wrong. This is not the meeting point of philosophy and astronomy but this is the confluence of Tanishq and designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. This is the jewel collection of Tanishq that featured with Sabyasachi Mukherjee's collection Vincent at the Milan Fashion week 2004. The young and the old, the hot and the happening gathered on the occasion, fit for the youngsters to learn a thing or two, and the discerning to imbibe something too.
"India has a lot to offer not only in sports but in fashion," says Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Tanishq's distinctive styles and designs in jewellery created for designer Sabyasachi's clothing line at the Milan Fashion Week 2004 were a visual delight. Vincent is the rejuvenation of his collection Frog Princess. The jewellery created by the Tanishq Design Studio, presented a contemporary interpretation of traditional Indian design and fashion while the Tanishq jewellery collection captured the mysticism of India through traditional work such as filigree and kundan, and highlighted the ethnic Indian symbols such as the Teeka.
"We at Tanishq Design Studio have always celebrated Indian sensibilities and endeavoured to blend traditional Indian fashion with contemporary flavour in order to create global trends," expressed Bhuwan Gaurav, Regional Business Manager-North, Tanishq. Complementing these Tanishq creations was Sabyasachi's Vincent collection, which conveyed an Indo-European feeling, bringing out the use of distressed fabrics, gussets and layering. Traditional Indian techniques like `kantha' stitching, quilting and vegetable block prints were used extensively to highlight the Indian essence of collection.
Asked whether Sabyasachi Mukherjee believed in the middle class sensibility when it comes to clothes, he says, "The fashion arena and the media in itself is a world of make belief. Being middle class does not mean you have to be middle class throughout your life... I draw a line, when I am with my family and friends, I am the same old Sabyasachi." And his clothes are for the upwardly mobile.
