Fine wine!

FUN TIME A scene of grape stomping at the wine festival

Grapes can be sour but we can't help eating them. And what's more, we not only eat them, we drink them too!

The Great Wine Festival that was rejoiced the other day in New Delhi presented a wonderful example of this. The destination was the Eden Court at the city's Metropolitan Hotel Nikko.

With a complete range of wines from 14 countries across the world, the festival provided the guests more than 60 wine brands from Italy to India, Canada to Chile, to savour and relish.

And sensing the success of the venture, Vipul Gupta, Director, The Metropolitan Hotel Nikko, said, "We hope to make the wine fest an annual affair." Also to make the experience complete, the festival had a corner for grape stomping too.

Wine display

To talk of wine displays, the French wine booth had a great deal to put on show. Michel Gonet and Castel call for no introduction. Chateau Lesparre, claimed to be having in it 60 per cent aroma of fruits including litchi, 20 per cent aroma of citrus that brings acidity and freshness and 20 per cent aroma of white flowers, established an instant liking in the wine-lovers' list.

Even Californian wine had scores of good brands including America's no. 1 champagne, ANDRE. One more interesting brand that was put on show here was Carlo Rossi, claimed to be a generic wine and an extremely smooth drink for Indian taste. Ernest and Julio Gallo and Turning Leaf qualified to be readily available and quite popular.

Numerous other brands from different countries were at display in the fest including Montana from New Zealand, Jacob's Creek from Australia, African Tree from South Africa, Indian wines had a range of Chateau Indage offerings.
