The Police

This is not just the finest song The Police ever wrote, it is also one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Sting was getting over a failed relationship at the time he wrote this, and the lyrics show a man torn apart. In contrast, the music has an upbeat feel to it, with an addictive chorus. King of Pain is a multi-layered song, managing to be simplistic and deeply complex at the same time. Hauntingly beautiful, this shows The Police at the height of their powers.
