Bright in patches Anusha's performance passed muster while Aishwarya's presentation was neat. Lyric and melody in happy harmony Remarkable symmetry between lyrical aesthetics and melodic beauty characterised P. Unnikrishnan's recital. Aesthetics and tradition The Maharajapuram tradition came alive in Ganesh's concert as Savitha impressed with her mellifluous voice. Lingering fragrance of Hindolam Raji Gopalakrishnan offered a winning combination while Master Sathyanarayana played the keyboard, gamakas intact. Ragas unfold in splendid hues Bombay Jayashree's raga expeditions were a delight. A fascinating collaboration The violin and the sitar, the tavil and the table joined in a rain of rhythm. Brisk start to a rainy morning Gayathri Venkataraghavan's Sankarabaranam alapana was well crafted, touching the characteristics of the majestic raga. Music in a soft idiom Sumitra Nitin's smooth raga delineation and the facile technique of Hyderabad Sisters were some of the week's highlights.
`Dance without abhinaya is acrobatics' The intricacies of abhinaya were demonstrated by the Dhananjayans while veterans Kalpagam Swaminathan and Karaikkudi Mani dealt with veena styles. Experience shows Shailaja Ramji presented confident and uninhibited portrayals. Focus on rural art The spotlight at this year's Natya Kala Conference was on folk forms. A grand spectacle Music stole the show in Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala's "Krsna Madhurym." Full of poise and grace Navia Natarajan's dance reflected a solid foundation in Vazhuvoor bhani. Perfection, the hallmark The students of Nrityagram presented an exquisite Odissi performance. |
