MY FESTIVAL -- RAVIKIRAN
A major learning process
The memories of my first year in the season are not vivid, as I made my debut in 1969 as a two-year-old. But I have heard that it was an extremely colourful season, and my demonstrations at the Music Academy and the Krishna Gana Sabha drew a huge ...

    Music

    A well-planned concert
The mandolin duet of Srinivas and Rajesh was marked by interesting improvisations.
    On the right track
Ramani's swara sequences with immaculate laya precision had heads nodding in approval.
    Spontaneous, authentic
The natural flow of musical phrases created a classical atmosphere as Saketaraman sang. Srivalson Menon was perfectly sruti-aligned.
    Mellifluous in an inspiring setting
The delineation of Todi without gimmicks was the highlight of Bhaskaran's flute recital.
    Rendition sans bhava and rakti
    O. S. Thyagarajan's presentation was overlaid with ornate sancharas.
    Never a dull moment
A well-designed recital by Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam.
    Free-flowing movements
Young dancer Aparna gave it all she had.
    Majestic rendition on the veena
Sahana made the veena sound like human voice through discrete swaras in sancharas.

    Dance

    Orchestra vies for honours
The accompaniment was as sparkling as Sridharini's dance.
    Marathon effort
The Malladi Brothers kept the audience riveted for over three hours.
    Attractive tillana
The tillana was the main attraction in Divya Kasturi's programme.
    Quicksilver movements
With confidence and verve, Alarmel Valli breezed through her programme.
    Characters enter in style
The Kalakshetra show was an effective mix of Bharatanatyam and Kathakali.
    Impressive performance
Brisk, well-timed movements but the strain was evident in Urmila's footwork.
    Agile and expressive
Quick footwork made the performance of dancers Shreelata and Anapayini impressive.
