In modern English, one can express the same feeling in different words. Over the centuries, English has absorbed many words from different languages. Despite the same meanings, each word has its origin in a different language, like Anglo-Saxon, also known as old English, was brought to Britain by Germanic tribes (the Angles, Saxons and Jutes) in the Fifth Century AD; Latin; Old Norse which came from Scandinavia in the Ninth and 10th Centuries; French. after 1066 AD the Norman invasion of the island and Greek
English speakers today take words from other languages for phenomena that have no existing English name telephone, futon, tea, video, tattoo, sauna.
