Making the high ranges clean

A campaign was conducted by the students of our school to Kodikuthimala on December 5, 2002. It was a part of the field trip of our Nature Club. It was under the patronage of Mr. Rajkumar, an environmentalist. Our teacher, Mr. Abdul Majeed, also accompanied us. We started from our school at 7.30 a.m. and reached our destination by 11.30 a.m. Kodikuthimala is a remote area and it is situated in between Perinthalmanna and Palakkad.

The journey was full of nice experiences. We experienced the softness of nature. Kodikuthimala is like a high range. Once it was famous for sight seeing. But now the dense forests, bushes and flowers are all disappearing. The whole area has been subjected to erosion.

Instead of bushes and flowers, we could only see garbage, used up plastic covers, cups and plates. A lot of tourists who visit the place and other anti-social elements are the people responsible for this litter. It is one more example of how human beings can behave cruelly towards nature.

The enthusiastic students of Farook had gone there with the desire to make the place clean. They picked up all the empty bottles and the plastic material and put them in a dustbin. In spite of the hot sun, they worked hard to make the place neat and clean. Now the place is not as ugly as it was before.

By evening we had to say adieu to mother nature. On the way back, we shared our strange, unique and memorable experience with each other. It is a pleasure to say that such field trips will really help the students realise the necessity of preserving nature for posterity.
