How qualified are you as a parent?

AFP

Do parents ever ask themselves why they have children? Do they have children to perpetuate their name, to carry on their legacy? Parents are busy in a world that is sadly less and less child oriented.

It is extraordinary that, while people are rigorously trained to be engineers or doctors, they may become parents without undergoing any training whatsoever to fit them for this important task.

Parents have their own form of the deficit perspective; when their kid's performance does not measure up, they conclude that they have failed as parents. Nalanda Way Foundation is a socially committed organisation helping parents manage these challenges better.

The foundation organises programmes to introduce parents to new approaches and ideas. The programme is facilitated by educationists and child psychologists like Mrs. Amukta Mahapatra, Dr. M.C. Matthew, Dr. Vijay Nagaswami, and Dr. Srinivasan.

The programme would help parents talk about their experiences, get answers to most commonly asked questions, and would include stories and new insights that parents have shared with the team in the past years.

The programme is designed in a novel way that uses theatre techniques making it interactive and engaging. But most important, the programme will keep sight of the larger goal — the constant search for methods that affirm the dignity and humanity of both parents and children.
