A cup of joy
Dear dad,
As I hopefully wished, our blue house won the sports championship, the literary championship and the overall championship. Isn't it a hat trick? I am sending a photograph along with my letter, dad. Just see how excited I look.
With a championship in my hands, while the snap was taken, all those scenes, which helped us come out successful, flashed before my eyes. To be selected as a house captain we had to undergo several qualifying tests, which comprised a march past with swaggering steps, test of voice, it's pitch and modulation, a commanding physique to lead the group and the courage to face a big crowd. I was elated when the mantle of leadership fell on my shoulders. At the same time I realized that I had responsibility to discharge my duties as a leader.
Most of the co-curricular activities and the team games involve united effort and team spirit and co-operation of the house students. The interest of the house teachers played a major role and with a combined effort we were able to succeed in all our endeavours. I have learnt a lesson that "Unity is strength". I remember dad, what you always said that participation is more important than winning. Participation gave me fulfilment but winning made me feel exhilarated.
Do reply soon and inform me about the date of your arrival.
Your loving son,
Abdul Saleem, XII
