Polluted Everest
We are aware that people throw garbage carelessly on roads and other public places. Now even the Everest isn't being spared.
About two tonnes of empty oxygen cylinders and aluminium ladders left behind by teams climbing the Everest were brought back by helicopters to Kathmandu, by the Everest Rejuvenation Campaign workers in May 2001.
A further 2.3 tonnes of rubbish built over 48 years of expeditions including food, plastic wrapping, ropes and tents were buried or burned at the base camp. The exercise revealed the effects of overcrowing brought about by wealthy amateurs paying huge amounts to sponsor expeditions. So, while on this great creation of God, dispose the garbage thoughtfully before over pollution catches you unaware!
