Mar. 4:

Veteran Communist leader, Ms. Geeta Mukherjee (76), of a massive heart attack in New Delhi. Popularly known as `Geetadi', she won every Lok Sabha election from Panskura in West Bengal since 1980.

Mar. 13:

The former Chief of the Army Staff, General Paramasiva Prabhakar Kumaramangalam (87), at the Air Force command hospital in Bangalore. He was the Army Chief for three years from 1966. He shot into prominence during World War II when he commanded a company in West Asia.

Mar. 16:

Mr. Thomas Wilson Ferebee (81), the bombarder who dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima in World War II, after brief illness in his home at Florida.

Mar. 28:

Anthony Powell (94), the English novelist, at his home in Somerset.
