The Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) conducts the two-year (four-semester) Advanced CNC Manufacturing Technology (ACTM) for those who are qualified with ITI Machinist/DTDM/DME. GTTC was set up by the Government under an agreement with the Danish and German Governments to provide a base for tool making; which is the backbone of the manufacturing industry.

The courses at GTTC offer opportunities to have hands-on experience on projects that impart information on design of tools, jigs and fixtures.

The usage of updated CAD/CAM software and the state-of-the-art CNC machines is the hallmark of GTTC. For admissions, you should contact the Manager-Training, GTTC, Rajajinagar Industrial Estate, Bangalore-560 044 (Ph: 32510197 extn. 350 and 352).

I am a student of Class 12. I want to pursue a career in guidance technologies like radar in relation to their military application, as I am keen in joining the DRDO. Will a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical or Electronics help he pursue my ambition?

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (1958) (DRDO) (www.drdo.org) has created a niche for itself over a period of time, providing our defence services internationally competitive systems and solutions.

It has a network of more than 50 laboratories, s more than 5,000 scientists and 25,000 scientific, technical and supporting staff. Some of the major projects of DRDO focus on missile technology, Light Combat Aircraft, radars, electronic warfare systems, electronics and instrumentation, and armaments.

If you want to join it you need qualifications in the areas of physics, mathematics, electronics engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering and chemistry. The areas of study mentioned need not be inclusive, but they should be considered as inter-disciplinary.

Former President Abdul Kalam specialised in aeronautical engineering from Madras Institute of Technology. He was Project Director in developing India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) which successfully injected the Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit in July 1980 and made India an exclusive member of the Space Club.

Not only did this event make India proud, it catapulted the country into the big league. Agni and Prithvi were also his contribution. You have the chance to utilise the best of opportunities provided by DRDO.

I graduated in science and completed M.Sc. in Biology. I want to enrol at the CFTRI. Please give details of the Master's programme.

The safety aspect in the field of engineering is very important, which goes a long way to help the industries function in a manner desirable without losing out on manpower and infrastructure.

You can approach the Bhilai Institute of Technology, Durg, Madhya Pradesh, which offers the Post-Diploma in Industrial Safety.

You can get in touch with the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (www.mitpune.com), Pune, which conducts the Post-Graduate Diploma in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering.

I have completed M.Sc. Microbiology with 53.5 per cent. I want to pursue M.Phil and Ph.D. I approached the Vinayaka University and the Sikkim Manipal University study centres in Bangalore. Are the programmes offered by them recognised by the UGC?

Deemed University is a status of autonomy granted to high-performance institutes and departments of various universities by the UGC and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The status gives the departments not just total autonomy in setting the course work and syllabus but also allows them to set their own guidelines for admissions, fees and instruction of the students.

Vinayaka Missions Research (www.vinayakamission.medvarsity.com) Foundation falls under the category of Deemed University. Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical & Technological Sciences (www.smuhmts.edu) is promoted by the State of Sikkim and supported by the Manipal Group of Institutions.

Since both the Universities are recognised by the UGC and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), you can take up the course of your choice.
