The most recent round of the Young World quiz was held in Madurai and Coimbatore. It was an exciting time for both the participants and the audience.

As the heady fragrance of the Madurai malli intensified in the sultry afternoon, 562 teams filled the Raja Muthiah Hall on October 2, for The Hindu Young World Regional quiz. Teams had come from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kodaikanal too. Dr. P.K.Ponnusamy, the Vice Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University, was the chief guest.
The six teams who made it to the regional finals were: C. Venketeshwaran and R. Venketaram of Alagappa M.H.S.S., Madurai, K. Sainath and E.Karthikeyan of S.B.O.A. M.H.S.S., Madurai, S. Jeeva and R. Ramprakash of Mahatma Montessori M.H.S.S., Madurai, G. Jagdeesh and G. Sriram of T.V.S. Lakshmi M.H.S.S., Madurai, C. Lakshmi and R. Bhuvaneshwari from Holy Cross Anglo Indian Girls' H.S.S., Tuticorin and Harini Sriram and K. Shanthanalakshmi from Holy Cross Anglo Indian Girls' H.S.S., Tuticorin. G.Jagdeesh and G. Sriram made it to the All India finals.
V.V.Vivek and J. Sumathy from Akshara M.H.S.S., Madurai received the prize for the best team name: "Alien heads, native brains." The quizmaster V.V.Ramanan held sway.

It was the second time an SBOA school won the regional finals in this year's edition of The Hindu-Young World quiz, when M.Abishek and V.Anoj made it to the top at Coimbatore on October 5. In the opening encounter at Chennai on August 31, the girls from SBOA school had garnered glory.

The CIT auditorium in Kovai was abuzz with some 1300 children on Saturday last. The number of teams participating this year had doubled and more. The preliminary written round started on the dot at 2 p.m. and soon the top six teams were selected: KVK No. 2, Palakkad, Laidlaw Memorial school, Sainik School, SBOA and two teams from last year winners, Li Sieux.
The audience rounds proved very popular as there were several prizes going for every right answer. The finals started on a sombre note with the first two questions going abegging, but after that it was a gripping show all the way. The second round "Be Choosy" found all the six teams smashing it, each team pocketing a cool 15 points. The name "Ozone Menders and Earth Savers" won Rs. 1500 for the team from Sri Vidyalaya Matric HSS, Gobichettipalayam. The Chief Guest R. Prabhakar, Principal, CIT distributed the prizes.
The title sponsor of the quiz was Eveready and the event managers, letsquiz.com. Co-sponsors included Hercules, Britannia, Titan Dash, and Fourth R: the official drink was Coca-cola. The Lakshmi Mills Co. Ltd, Suvai Foods, Annalakshmi Hotels, Avathar Jewellers, CBR masala, Ruchi Foods, Cross Roads, Cauvery Timber Corporation, Sri Krishna Sweets, Manoj Prakashan, Solo International, Rajat Waffles and Snacks, Top Ramen Noodles and Black Thunder were the regional sponsors.
