TRAVELLER'S TALES Visit to Lingdum Monastery Holidays are meant to be fun. But sometimes they don't turn out the way you plan. Here are a few accounts of holidays that have gone terribly wrong and also of some that were spent in unknown locales. Tiring journey Last summer I visited Murudeshwar in Karnataka. We were four of us but only two of our tickets were confirmed. The train arrived four hours late. At Mangalore we took a taxi and on the way the tyre got a puncture. We were very thirsty and hungry. ... Creepy mine As my father had to go for inspection to Pithoragarh, I went with him. We had to travel about 500 miles in a Maruti van. On the way we saw two half-eaten dogs, seven forest fires and about 30 trucks that had met with accidents! We reached there ... Crocodiles and monkeys After three hours of travel, our school bus creaked to a halt at Talakona in the early hours of a pleasant day. It is a picturesque picnic spot with streams and waterfalls. That day on the hill I study in a residential school surrounded by beautiful hills in the outskirts of Vijayawada. One Sunday my friend Sai Chand and I decided to go trekking.
