New twist to an old tale

PRINCE FREDERICK

The "Son of Alladin" has come to India. Released in the United States in August, this 80-minute 3D-animated film is from the Chennai-based Pentamedia. Scripted by Mark Zaslove, the film has an American tone to it, thanks to an all-American voice cast. Praveen Mani's music meshes with the different moods. The animation is superb. The short, frog-like Juju takes the cake for clowning. With a gaunt frame, a flowing red dress and a stalk in hand, the villain of the piece — sorcerer Zeezeeba — looks the part. The hero, Mustafa, is as a muscular, young man in leather jacket, trousers and shoes.

The story, credited to Rao Singeetam, has a fairy tale ring. The movie begins with the sorcerer Zeezeeba consulting an oracle, who foretells Zeezeeba's death at the hands of the son of Alladin, who is the King of Basra.

A new story line that is sure to keep you glued.
