AVBHS, Thazhava, Kollam

The secrets of atom have perplexed scientists for centuries. The discovery of atom opened the floodgates of scientific advancement. John Dalton achieved a breakthrough by discovering the atom. The painful and ecstatic moments through which the scientist went were captured in a one-act play by the boys of AVBHS, Thazhava, Kollam. The play, titled "Immensely Great Little Ones" was performed in the National Science Drama Festival in Bangalore. The performance received many accolades from several luminaries of the stage apart from winning the prize for the best play from southern states. The play was re-enacted for a TV crew, two weeks ago.

The play made one wonder how a difficult subject can be, so simply, treated.

C. Rajendran, the drawing teacher of the school, who scripted and directed the play, says the venture is his first stage initiative.

"There are many students in my school who show keen interest in acting. I was just putting their talent on trial," he says.

The students who brilliantly performed were Sandeep, Sanju, Sarath, Sreejith, Unnikrishnan, Nitheesh, Viswajith and Robin Zakaria. Their achievement becomes more praiseworthy when viewed against the backdrop of the common woes of a rural government school.
