Architect of dreams

ANUJ KUMAR

Finish your studies, advises Riteish...

Sandeep Saxena

Criticising the interiors and architecture of a five-star hotel takes some doing, but actor Riteish Deshmukh has the qualification to do that. Taking a look at his room in the Le Meridien hotel. This architecture graduate from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute of Architecture, Mumbai, says it's time we do away with customary lampshades and flowers in the living rooms. "Contemporary styling demands simplicity with a distinct minimal touch."

Talking about his school days Riteish, an alumnus of G.D. Somaya School, Mumbai says, "I was an ordinary student till Std. VIII, but suddenly out of the blue, I developed an interest in studies and started finishing among the top three in the class."

Recalling his initiation into the dreamland, Riteish says that cameraman Kabir Lal spotted him when he went to watch the shooting of "Taal" and recommended his name to Ramoji Rao for "Tujhe Meri Kasam".

He doesn't consider the shift to acting as a dumb move. "According to my interpretation both architecture and acting are creative jobs where your personality reflects your creativity and I am here as long as the industry offers me different roles. I always have the option to go back to architecture. That's what I recommend to newcomers; first finish your education. It not only helps you select roles but also gives you an option to go for other things if this career doesn't work out."

However, he is in no mood to switch to his father Vilasrao Deshmukh's profession, politics. "That's for my brother."
