Very appealing

PAROMITA PAIN

Two books — one about Ganesha and the other a book of simple prayer.

Meera Uberoi's Lord Ganesha's Feast of Laughter is an appealing collection of tales that intelligently chronicles the development of this well loved deity from babyhood till the time he became the much-revered "remover of obstacles". Ganesha suffers from no growing up angst. He has a powerful father and a really easy-going mum, yet he is neither spoiled nor suffering from self esteem issues. The tales aren't religious in tone and the stories aren't uncommon. But put together they make for a nice read on a lazy afternoon.

Thank You God by Sheila Dhir and Supriya Upadya is a simple, easy to read book. Its simple prayer is warm and fulfilling. "The book was inspired by my belief that we have much to thank for in these troubled times all around us. The simple thoughts and lines in verse are meant to instil an element of gratitude for the pleasures that nature around has given us. It is universal and non-denominational in its approach," says Dhir. It is dedicated to the child in each of us. Each page is printed in a different colour. Richly illustrated, the book is a riot of colours. The illustrations are simple and heart warming.
