Techie taffy
PAROMITA PAIN
With Father's Day round the corner, Techie had a good time looking up how the day to honour fathers came to be. Father's Day is quite a recent phenomenon. As the http://wilstar.com/holidays/fathers.htm site says, "Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a `father's day'. She thought of the idea while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909." The site may take a while to open and has irritating pop ups that can really slow things down besides wafting across the screen and being very distracting but various facts regarding the day is well presented here. The site is a neat one with the history and quotes about fathers but its best bit is probably the Father's Day Word Search Online, a copyrighted game that is simple but fun. Besides it has different links from the yahoo pages too.
The http://www.marvelcreations.com/fathersday.html page is a beautifully created one that tells us more about this day. Scroll don to read "Why God created fathers". It has some special Father's Day poetry too which for once isn't too mushy. Just remember your Dad may not match on many of the points but that doesn't prevent him from being the best ever.
The http://www.funmunch.com/events/fathers_day/fathers_day_history.shtml is a most exciting one that has pictures you can take enlarged printouts of to colour and tell him how much eh means to you. Sometimes they are better than e cards. Don't forget to check out the "Traditions" section at the bottom of the page. The special part on recipes at the http://www.funmunch.com/events/fathers_day/fathers_day_recipes.shtml is a must visit. It has different preparations, which with some supervision, you can serve to tickle Dad's gourmet glands. From breakfast to dinner, cakes to drinks, this is meant to appeal to the culinary expert within us and whose else but patient Dad to try out some cooking on?
Of course while you are at it check out the Wikipedia section too at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father's_Day.
