Aidan is 15 years old and has everything he wants: a nice, happy suburban home in Surrey, beautiful Emily Gardner, friends, everything. School's just finished and he's looking forward to spending the holidays hanging around with Emily and his friends. Then his mum drags him up north to Liverpool, where his grandfather is dying of asbestosis.
He meets Jade, who is gorgeous, but there's something she's hiding, and Aidan isn't sure what it is. He also meets a man called Sean Deegan, a drug dealer, a criminal (with a gun and everything!), who, strangely enough, claims to be his father.
Blood Pressure is a thriller. It is fast paced and written in a style that involves using many full stops, even when not really necessary. The end is depressing in a way, but fitting in another. It leaves the reader slightly dazed.

Matthew Alacran is a clone. But unlike other clones, his brain hasn't been destroyed at birth as the law demands, so he is intelligent and talented. That is because he was made from the DNA of El Patron: a power- hungry drug lord who owns a vast stretch of opium land in the former country of Mexico.
Brought up by a loving maid, Celia, Matt is looked down upon by others in the Alacran Estate because he is a clone, and thus `inferior'. The few people who care for him include young Maria and Matt's personal bodyguard Tam Lin. But the person closest to his heart is El Patron: because he is El Patron!
The House of the Scorpion is a remarkable story that does not fail to fascinate. It seems to suggest what the future can bring: with clones, drugs, and zombies with computer chips in their brains. By the author of The Sea of Trolls, this book is a long and compelling story that is certainly worth a read.
